Greenberg Traurig had the most representatives of any law firm at the EB5Investors.com 2013 Southern California conference. The EB-5 conference took place Monday, July 15, at the Balboa Bay Club & Resort in Newport Beach, California. The conference is the premier EB-5 stakeholder and dealmaker conference each year. In addition to the organizers, our own Kate Kalmykov was co-chair of the conference.
The keynote speaker was U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Virginia), who gave a speech followed by a question and answer session in the morning. While Rep. Goodlatte did not support taking up the Senate immigration bill, he offered his support for several issues, including a relaxation of the regulations regarding material changes. Rep. Goodlatte also reiterated his support for a piecemeal approach to immigration, arguing a comprehensive bill is not a positive way forward. Additionally, Rep. Goodlatte indicated he would like to see the border secure before a pathway to citizenship is considered, taking a significantly divergent position to the one advocated by the bipartisan Senate bill.
The Greenberg Traurig team participated on panels such as “Understanding the Interplay of USCIS EB-5 Requirements and SEC Regulations,” “Understanding EB-5,” “EB-5 Regional Center Project Planning: From ‘A’ to ‘I-829,'” and “Best Practices for Investor Filings”. Kate Kalmykov and Jen Hermansky moderated panels while Genna Garver and Jen Hermansky participated on their respective panel discussions.
